Sustainable Organic Vegetable Gardening With Organic Matter (part 2 of 2)

You can also seed the green manure in the fall and then turn it under with a plow or a large tiller in the early spring. That way, you can use your garden normally while at the same time building up the soil.

Annual ryegrass is a good example for green manuring and covering. THIs should be seeded 1 to 2 feet per 1,000 square feet. If this is not available, you can use seed rye or wheat and place it 3 to 4 feet per 1,000 square feet. This helps prevent weeds from growing and in order for this to be effective, wait at least 2 weeks before you start planting.

Sewage sludge is also a good source of organic matter. There are two types namely digested sludge and dried activated sludge.

The first is relatively low quality. It contains from 1 to 3 percent of nitrogen and should only be applied during the fall. But you should be careful when you use it because it sometimes contain metal ions that are not good to use on vegetable gardens.

The second which is the dried activated sludge has been separated from coarse solids, inoculated with microorganisms and aerated. This is better than the other one because it is filtered, dried in kilns and screened. It contains 5 to 6 percent of nitrogen and 5 to 7 pounds can cover an area of 100 square feet.

Take note that these two types are different from raw sewage. That being said, never use that to garden any soil.

Sustainable organic vegetable gardening can only happen with organic matter. Now that you know this, choose from manure, compost or sludge.

Sustainable Organic Vegetable Gardening With Organic Matter (part 1 of 2)

Sustainable organic vegetable gardening can only happen if people know how to use and prepare organic matter.

This is because it improves the soil and prevents it from compacting and crusting. It increases the water’s holding ability so earthworms and other microorganisms can aerate the soil and it slows down erosion and in later stages of decay so that organic matter is able to release nitrogen and other nutrients which help the crops grow.

Such a technique is old but is now making a come back because the conventional method of using synthetic materials like fertilizer and pesticides have ruined the soil and depleted it or organic matter so this cannot be used for replanting.

So where do we get this organic matter? Believe it or not, the best form of organic matter comes from animal manure. The fresher the better because you can apply this directly to the soil but this should only be done in the fall and plowed down to give it adequate time for sufficient breakdown and ammonia to release before the planting season begins.

If you don’t have access to fresh animal manure, you can use the dried version that is being sold in nurseries and garden stores.

For those who don’t to use manure, you can use compost instead. This can be made from lawn clippings, leaves, food waste and other plant materials. It is cheap but its nutrient content is very low.

There is another kind of manure better known as green manure You don’t use any waste by animals here but rather growing a cover crop in your garden and then plowing it under so you are adding organic matter to the soil. The best way to maximize this is for you not to use the garden for one season.

Mineral Makeup Pros and Cons (part 2 of 2)

Another good this about mineral makeup, is that you can wear it for almost 8 hours while you are on the pool.  It is water resistant.  You do not have to worry about having your makeup smudging or leaking throughout the day.  Manufacturer would even claim that you can go to bed with your makeup on and wake up the next day with the makeup still intact.

There are two sides of a coin, they say.   Unfortunately, with mineral makeup, there are limited choices.  Since they use natural colourings, there are limited options specially, for dark skinned women.

Another downside is that, there are ingredients that can still have harmful effects.  Remember that our bodies react differently on different minerals. So eve if several women claim that they do not form any allergic reaction to the mineral makeup’s components, you should still be cautious since your body may react differently.  Some minerals which are getting complaints are the bismuth oxychoride and mica.  They claim, that there sometimes it becomes itchy and that the face turns red.  They say that this happens during hot climate.

Mineral makeup’s ability to be water resistant can be both beneficial and detrimental.  Because it is water resistant, taking it off would take much time and effort than regular makeup.

Since mineral makeup is also in loose powder form, application can be messier than regular makeup especially for those who are not yet familiar on how to use one.  And also, it is not really travel friendly because of its loose form.

If you are interested in taking a healthier path, then definitely mineral makeup is the best for you.  Some women find that it is appealing but are very much concerned on the application process and technique.  There are different ways on how learn the application, there are websites and people who can help you out.

Mineral Makeup Pros and Cons (part 1 of 2)

Women are getting excited over the new cosmetic trend, mineral makeup.  Actually this is not a anew trend, these cosmetic discovery has been used centuries ago by ancient women.  Cleopatra used this kind of makeup to accentuate her beauty during her time.

Why are there much hype over mineral makeup?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of makeup?

The list is long.  But let’s start with the fact that mineral makeup is free from additives like chemicals and preservatives.  This kind of makeup comes from natural minerals which are sterilized and pulverized, they are mixed with inorganic colourings.

Since it is chemical free, the skin pore can breathe freely.  Chemical based cosmetics tend to block the pores causing certain skin problems like acne, skin’s dryness, rosacea and other problems.  With pores blocked, what happens is that bacteria are encouraged to grow on the skin leading to skin disorders.

Mineral makeup contain ingredients that improves the skin. There are minerals which primarily protects the skin against the dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sum.  There are also some minerals which are naturally anti-inflammatory, like zinc and magnesium.

Aside from this, with traditional makeup, some women with oily faces end up with oilier ones.  Since traditional makeup can be very oily because of its components, the face tends to double the oiliness sometimes.  But with mineral makeup, there are no oils used in the process creating a glossy but not oily finish.

Women are choosing mineral makeup over traditional ones because of the glow they put into your skin.  Since there are also minerals which helps in hydrating the skin, the face looks more radiant and has a healthy glow.  The wrinkles and other fine lines seem to disappear.

Pacific Perfection: The Great Kauai Beaches (part 2 of 2)

Donkey Beach is located in East Kauai featuring a combination of rocks, sand and trees. Donkey Beach was named after the common practice of letting donkeys and burros haul sugar cane in nearby fields and plantations. This is a beautiful open beach where you can enjoy snorkeling, picnicking and walking. There are no lifeguards, facilities and restrooms however. Visitors should be cautious about swimming during high tide since waves breaking on ledges and drop offs are unpredictable.

Ha’ean Beach on Highway 560, Northa Kauai is another open beach and is a favorite among surfers. There is a beach and park area with picnic tables, showers and restrooms. Swimming is not recommended however because of deep drop offs.

Beach Safety Guidelines

For amateur surfers and swimmers, it is recommended to swim only at beaches featuring lifeguards and located only a few miles from the nearest health center. Always inform lifeguards and other companions before going into the water and ask for swimming tips and areas of concern. Watch out for warning signs and follow rules. Daily and seasonal changes occur which can make some beaches particularly dangerous depending on the current weather, tide or time of the year.

Waves come in sets and there can be as much as a 20-minute break in between dangerous ones. Stay away from coastal rocks and boulders since strong waves can easily thrash people. Ask how long from the shoreline the drop offs are. Accidents can happen off the water as well so be careful when treading on sand, grass and rocks. It is advised to go with a rip current instead of fighting back.

Call for help immediately and conserve energy. Ask a partner to go with you when doing water activities and if you do not have full information about a certain Kauai beach or body of water, never go out.

Pacific Perfection: The Great Kauai Beaches (part 1 of 2)

If you’re looking for serenity, excitement or adventure, Kauai beaches are the perfect places to be. Almost half of the island’s coastline is made of both open and commercial beaches featuring an array of beautiful plants and animals on land, air and water. Some of these sites have unique characteristics which are why it is important to be on the lookout constantly and understand some navigation and safety tips.

Finding the Best Beach

The oldest and northernmost island of Hawaii measures around 552 square miles on an almost perfect circle form. It is about 33 miles wide and 25 miles long at its furthest points and only 3% of the land is residentially and commercially used. People generally reside along the coastal points leaving the interior part pristine and conserved. Expect temperature to be around 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit although these tend to rise during the summer and drop during late afternoon and evening.

Cool breezes come from the northeast trade winds while the ocean temperature ranges anywhere from 68 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain showers are common early in the morning and at night over the mountain ranges.

Anini Beach on Anini Road in North Shore Kauai is one of the safest and most protected sites along the northern part of Kauai. Hawaii’s longest reef runs the whole length of Anini Beach. You will find luxurious Kauai vacation homes at different key points featuring captivating views of the coast and ocean.

One side of the beach only has 4 feet of water that slowly cascades to more than a 100 feet on the opposite end. You can enjoy several activities like snorkeling, windsurfing, scuba diving and swimming. There are campsites as well along shady Kamani trees complete with showers and restrooms.

For designing and developing a desert landscape, it is vital to streamline those ideas with hard reality. More than the specie of plants, there are more conditions that need to be considered – things that directly affect the growth of desert garden. Since a desert normally has extremely high-speed winds in the day, it is recommended to arrange for walls that can be used to divert winds along the edge of the garden. With this, the plants inside will remain intact and upright. Another thing you need to think about is the extreme heat that can burn the plant. To counter this, proper shelter along with a way for wind circulation is an ideal design.

The Voodoo Magic Trick (part 2 of 2)

For this to work, you will need to wrap a small piece of cellophane tape on your thumb and a broken pencil lead which you will set on your thumb. Before they say the number, you pretend to write the number they are thinking of on the piece of paper. When they say it, you use your thumb with the broken lead and write it down then show it to them.

There is also the “think of any card” magic trick.  Instead of writing something down, you simply give the person time to think which card they like and then say it aloud. When they say, it, you simply take it out of your pocket and surprise them because you just showed them the card they had picked.

But how do you do that? A lot of people say this trick is a wild guess but you can get a way with it since many pick the nine of diamonds, ace of spades, queen or hearts or the six of clubs. For this to work, you must have all the cards ready and then simply pull the right one out of your pocket. Just make sure you know where all of these are located so you get it right the firs time.

Can anyone really read a person’s mind? Of course not but this is the beauty about magic because you are creating the illusion that you can. It will just take some time to practice each of three magic tricks mentioned so you can get this right so you will be able to make everyone believe you have this gift.

The voodoo magic tricks are very simple and anyone can learn how to do it. If you are able to master these and want another challenge, do some research about other magic tricks so you can show it off to your friends.

The Voodoo Magic Trick (part 1 of 2)

There are many versions of the voodoo magic trick. What you are trying to do here is simply to make the person believe you know what they are thinking of or what they had written down. One example is telling the person what they had written down on a piece of paper.

For this, you will need to round up somebody and ask them if they want to perform a magic trick. If they are more than happy, tell them to write something in a piece of paper. When they are finished, you instruct them to crumple the piece of paper and put it on the ashtray.

You then light it up using a match or a lighter and when it is completely burned, you get the burned piece of paper and rub this on your arms. When you are done, you tell the person what was written on the paper.

The key to making this trick work is being able to look at the paper before this is completely burned. You should do this without the other person noticing so they won’t know how you did it.

A similar trick will be letting a volunteer think of a number between one and one hundred and saying this out loud. You then show the piece of paper with the same number written that will really make them believe you can read their minds.

The result? The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not realized and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would. The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 40% commission at least. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.

Try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it is really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness in you and this will trigger them to try them out for themselves.

Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and are paying dearly for their actions. To not fall into the same situation they have been in, try to do everything to avoid making the same mistakes.

Here's How To Avoid The 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes (part 1 of 2)

Affiliate marketing is one of the most effective and powerful ways of earning some money online. This program gives everybody a chance to make a profit through the Internet. Since these affiliate marketing programs are easy to join, implement and pays a commission on a regular basis, more an more people are now willing in this business.

However, like all businesses, there are lots of pitfalls in the affiliate marketing business. Committing some of the most common mistakes will cost the marketers a large portion taken from the profit they are making everyday. That is why it is better to avoid them than be regretful in the end.

Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate.

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is “hot”. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise move obviously.

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, try top choose a product in which you are truly interested in. For any endeavor to succeed, you should take some time to plan and figure out your actions.

Pick a product that appeals to you. Then do some research about that product to see if they are in demand. Promoting a product you are more passionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of the earnings only.

Mistake number 2: Joining too many affiliate programs.

Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.

True, that is a great way to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them.

Dress-Making - The Economics and Politics (part 2 of 2)
Politics, religion, and traditions

Evidently, politics and other socio-cultural aspects play a very significant part in the making and wearing of clothes, including the accessories that go with it. One can see from the examples above that these practices transcend time and place. Some are still in practice today.

As societies and other groupings begun to coalesce and develop, hierarchical rankings developed as well. Royalties, priests, ordinary citizens and others took to their assigned roles in their respective groups.

One effective way people were classified and organized would be by their clothing.

Countries have their own national costumes for their people. Armies have uniforms. The rankings of soldiers and officers are noted by insignias and other markings. Religious groups have their priests, rabbis, and elders sporting special clothes.

Economics and status symbols

Today, the social status of a person or group can sometimes be classified, too, by their capacity to acquire very expensive clothes and other luxurious items not available to everybody. These personal goods are limited only to these people with enough wealth to buy them.

Clothes make the man, so goes a tired old saying. To most people, this still holds true. They see beautiful clothes worn by beautiful movie stars and models, and even by plain celebrities. Helped by non-stop media barrage, the ordinary guy’s desire of owning and wearing these clothes themselves becomes obsession. Everyone wants to look like the current hot movie star or celebrity.

Astute dress-makers (name couturiers, big clothing companies) come into the picture by making these kinds of clothes available to every man and woman. Mass production of these expensive-looking clothes at a much lower cost becomes the solution to everyone’s yearning of owning them.

One very simple way of increasing value for these low-cost products is the prominent display of the clothes-maker’s brand name logo on the merchandise itself. The difference in value becomes the profit margin for the designer-manufacturer. These items may be clothes, bags, or any accessory considered hot at the moment.

In effect, the dress-maker’s logo defines the status of a person’s place in society. Stranger still, most people put such a high premium on these little signs. They display them whenever possible for other people to see.

Who’s that on your shirt’s label?

Dress-Making - The Economics and Politics (part 1 of 2)

First, consider these quirky facts on dress-making and the wearing of clothes.

In ancient China, only the emperor could wear yellow. It was the assigned imperial colors and nobody was entitled to use it except the highest royalty.

In the old island kingdom of Hawaii, only the chieftain had the right to wear feather cloaks, a clothing accessory that was hallowed to them.

Ancient temple priests had to wear specific garbs while doing their priestly duties, with the pain of death imposed on those who broke them. Today, not everyone can be assigned to sew priestly apparel, but once they are, standard forms and patterns must be thoroughly followed to the last lines.

In ancient Rome, only the senators of the republic could wear purple. Aside from the hallowed status, this came with some bragging rights because purple dye at that time was the most expensive and was not available to everyone.

Most of today’s women in the U.S. and Europe still wear white wedding dresses. This is because of the widespread belief that white symbolizes purity, and every woman wants to project that trait.

Sikhs in India wear turbans, one sample of a strict religious requirement.

Different Arab nationalities have different head scarves specific to their countries. The manufacture of these scarves follows exact specifications that are very important to them, sacred even.

Body Languages: When To Use Or Avoid (part 2 of 2)

You would know that the date is going well when signals of flirtation are present. A woman would tend to touch her hair, lick her lips, eat or drink slowly, and preen. Meanwhile, a man would usually wink, close the distance between them, lean forward, and stand tall. Bottom line is both sexes want to impress their partner by showing the masculinity or sexiness through actions. And these signs are indeed just the beginning of a higher level in the relationship.

Acts You Must Practice To Avoid

There are many kinds of gestures that you must practice to avoid. At work, try to hide your anxiety or tension by avoiding fidgeting, trembling, or shaking. Avoid excessive hand movements when talking, since this could distract others from focusing on your statements. Avoid also excessive blinking; this shows you are are uneasy and nervous. Stop looking at your watch or the clock. This is very rude since you are giving an impression that you want to end the interaction right away.  Do not stroke you chin, lean on an elbow, and fake a smile.

When on a date, it would be much more polite if you directly say “no” rather than showing signals of rudeness to the person if you are uninterested or getting bored. Do not sigh, look at other people other than your partner, slouch, and prop your head on your hands.

Observe Cultural Differences

The appropriate use of body language also depend on where you are and who you are interacting with. You may be talking to somebody with a very conservative culture and regards some gestures rude and disrespectful, even if they are normally used in your place.

Body Languages: When To Use Or Avoid (part 1 of 2)

There is an appropriate timing and place for every act of body language.  Most of the time, we are oblivious to the messages we convey through our body gestures and movements. We could give negative signals that might offend other people without intending to do so. There are gestures that we indeed have to avoid, but it may require discipline and practice for the very reason that we may have been used to performing this negative acts in our daily lives.

It is very important for one to be observant of his body language, and those of other people as well. You can read other people by learning how to understand how they act and move. But you must also be aware that there are people who know how to interpret body language, and somebody may already be reading you now. Thus, be cautious of actions by knowing when to use them and what to avoid.

At Work

It is always relevant to be in your best self at work. By doing so, you can impress your boss and please clients. Simply be confident when facing somebody. If you are relaxed, other people would not regard you as overconfident. Show them you truly know what you are talking about by maintaining good posture, eye contact and using appropriate hand gestures.

During A Date

How can you give signs that you are indeed attracted to another person without telling them verbally how you really feel? The solution is simple. Talk with your eyes and match it with a bright smile. These two are enough to let somebody know you are indeed enjoying his or her company.

Practical Applications of CNC (part 1 of 2)

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is the process of removing metal with the use of electrical sparks to take away the metal. These Electrical Discharge Machine has two types, the vertical EDM and wire EDM. Vertical EDM uses an electrode that is the shape of the cavity to be machined into a work piece. Wire EDM is used to create punch and die combinations in the fabrication industry. Computer Numerical Control EDM’s are not usually known because it is mostly incorporated to other CNC process.

Drilling is the most common machine process. Computer Numerical Controlled Drilling is used to create precise right circular cylinders over a certain material, the CNC could be programmed to create holes on different standards, most of the time this is the gaps between these holes. Drilling is commonly used in wood working manufacturing process in which other process is also involved such as milling, turning and grinding.

Several tools for creating holes with CNC’s involve varied hole sizes as well as drill press for creating different depths on its holes. CNC drills are equipped depending on the type of hole that the machine operator is drilling.

Applications stated above are just a few examples on what the Computer Numerical Control could execute. Depending on how you want it to perform, more complex designs can be made and a lot of things can be made in a shorter period of time, therefore the key concept for the proper use of CNC’s is that the machine operator must know what he or she wants to do.

This makes the CNC an indispensable tool for the Manufacturing Industry nowadays.

Practical Applications of CNC (part 1 of 2)

Manufacturing anything that requires exact measurements requires cutting edge precision and nimbleness from the worker. Most of the time manufacturing these kinds of products requires weeks or months to finish therefore slowing down productivity as well as consistency of the manufacturers.

Computer Numerical Control or more commonly called as CNC’s are the new trend in machine shop manufacturing and practice. Any manufacturing environment owns one or is basically acquainted to this kind of device because of its capability to increase productivity as well as consistency on the products being produced.

Benchmarked from Numerical Control (NC) during the late 50’s, Computer Numerical Control incorporate the functionality of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), meaning you could program it to execute different functions depending on the type of manufacturing that the industry needs.

Given this kind of quality what does the Computer Numerical Control do in the practical application concept? CNC can do a variety of things depending on how the machine operator would program the system. The more acquainted the machine operator is to the CNC machine the more complex applications as well as programming can be made. Practical applications of CNC range from drilling, lathes, multi-axis spindles, milling machines, laser cutting machines, and wire electrical discharge machines.

Let’s discuss some of these common applications further. In Metal fabrication, Computer Numerical controlled Lathe’s are used to fabricate metal sheet by shearing, flame or plasma cutting, punching, laser cutting, forming and welding. Most CNC Lathe’s are used for designing modern carbide tooling. The design could be created with the Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) process, and when done, the CNC could start creating the product automatically with little supervision from the machine operator.

On the Dole: The Effects of Economic Recession on Employment (part 2 of 2)

Economists, until now have not yet formally labelled the economic downturn of the United States as an economic recession.  Amidst falling home equity, the rising cost of food, health care and housing along with disturbing number of unemployment, economists is still claiming that there is still growth in the economy, even though it is small. People found it unnecessary for a formal announcement to actually feel the recession coming in.

According to Miami Herald, people unemployed are starting get desperate.  The number or people out of work for six months or more increased from 160,000 from July to August.  There are 10.7 percent of people who would like to have a full time job but
are unable to do so.  Due to unavailability of working positions.

It does not matter if you have a college degree under your belt.  College graduates this year are also experiencing the highest unemployment rate since 2004 with 2.7 percent.  Meanwhile, 9.6 percent of high school graduates are unemployed and this figure is  also highest rate since 1996.

Most of the job losses are in the manufacturing sector, which lost 61,000 jobs this year.  In the manufacturing industry, Miami Herald cited 20 percent of job loss even though the export numbers are increasing.

Even though the pay or salary is increasing, a 3.6 percent increase compared to 2007 salary, it is insufficient compared to the fast rate of increase in the prices of primary commodities.  The consumers’ buying power is still low.  Food and beverage costs are 5.8 percent higher than 2007.

For those who were left employed and thanking their lucky stars, there is still a hitch.  Companies are already cutting the health coverage for their employees.  Currently, $694 and $3,281, respectively, according to the most recent data by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Economic recession is an event which is very difficult for everybody.  Hopefully, the real economic status will be recognized immediately to be properly addressed and solve.

On the Dole: The Effects of Economic Recession on Employment (part 1 of 2)

There is a lot of talk about economic recession nowadays.  People are complaining how economic recession is making their lives worse. The economic recession often refers to the two quarters of negative economic growth.  A severe recession which lasts for more than two years, becomes a depression.

A recession is characterised by rising unemployment, increase in government borrowing, decrease of share and stock prices, and falling investment.  All of these characteristics have effects on people.

People have a general understanding of the recessions’ negative effects. But how does an ordinary consumer get affected by a recession, employment in  particular is not really clear.

John Schmitt and Dean Baker released a new report on the possible impact of the recession on What We’re In For, Projected Economic Impact of the Next Recession  this year.  In their report, the 2008 recession in United States is perceived to raise the national employment rate between  2.1 and 3.8 percentage points.  This would be an equivalent of  between 3.2 million and 5.8 million unemployed Americans.  CalculatedRisk stated, based on this report and United States’ recession history, that economic downturn can be measured in how high the unemployed number of people rises.

Based from the United States recession history, there had been a handful of times when the unemployment rate has risen during an expansion.  Unemployment had risen by 0.5 percent or and there were instances that it is less.  But this scenarios happen when the country is not under any economic downfall.  When the unemployment percentage reaches 0.6 percent, the economy is described to be under a recession.  This year, the U.S. unemployment rate is nearly 1.1 percent.

Home Exchange – Tips on Preparing Your Home (part 2 of 2)

The kitchen and appliances
For a real homebody, one of the many pleasures in a real home is a fully-equipped kitchen. Cooking away from home also takes on a special sense for some people. Providing a well-equipped kitchen for your guests certainly adds appreciation points for you.

Make sure the major appliances work. Knives need to be sharp. Pots and pans have to be ready for use. Those tools and cleaning supplies have to be in one easy-to-find place.

It is a good idea to stock up on oils, vinegar, flour, salt, sugar and other basic condiments for home cooking. Keep your cookbooks and favorite recipes within easy reach.

You may write notes to your guests on where to buy the freshest fish, the best butcher, where to find bargains, and where the best restaurants are.

Repairs, etc.
A leaky faucet would really have to be repaired, as much as that busted bulb has to be replaced. The wooden shed with peeling paint at the back of the house need not be repainted. Some sprucing up, of course, goes a long way.

Do you need to re-grout the bathroom tiles?
Is the kitchen sink dripping?
Does that linen closet really need repainting?
Where did that toilet paper holder in the downstairs bathroom go?
Is it time to shampoo the carpets?

In the end, you will notice your home had taken on a new attractive livable look, beautiful as it may have been before the streamlining and the sprucing up.

Finally, you may notice that all the repairs and the sprucing up were really how to make your home work (and look) good for you, and not just for your home exchange guests. As you may have noticed, that is the best part.

Home Exchange – Tips on Preparing Your Home (part 1 of 2)

Preparing your home for your home exchange partner is akin to having guests coming over. The exception is that they are going to stay in your house for the next week or two, and not just for dinner.

What should be the things to prepare? Where does one start? Which things can be left as they are?

From experienced home exchangers, some practical tips have been collated through the years for use by first-time home exchangers. Some of them are quite simple. Some are just practical things one needs to do even in ordinary situations. Others, of course, are important requirements.

This is one of the first requirements in preparing for your house guests. Check out all the clothes in your closet and get rid of all those that you have not worn for the past year (you don’t like them anymore), those that are in need of repair (you don’t care for them), and those that you hoped would fit you again (they won’t).

Put them all in bags to give away to friends, family or charity. Do these in all the closets in your house. Traditionally, it is expected that you leave considerable space (and plenty of hangers, too!) in these closets for use by your guests.

Off-limits room
The overall plan is to make enough room for your guests, and your personal items have to be moved and stored elsewhere.

Assign one room or perhaps a closet to be off-limits to your guests. This is where you store your personal items you leave behind: jewelry, your papers and private correspondences, very personal toiletries, delicate items, treasured art pieces, personal knick-knack items, etc. You will discover there is now plenty of space in the house for use by your guests.

Basic toiletry items such as toilet paper, soaps, and other cleaning items should be available and ready. Store your personal items (toothbrushes, shavers, etc.) in some nearby drawer. A fresh supply of clean bath and hand towels (as well as bed sheets, pillow case and other related items) should be available, too.

A supply of hand soaps, bath salts, or body lotion would spice up your bathroom. This is just an idea. You may have your own pleasant surprises for your guests.

Customer Knowledge: Buying Fish Oil Supplements (part 2 of 2)

Studies showed that fish oil with docosahexaenoic acid or DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA have the most health and benefits.  Studies showed that the brain uses or needs more DHA to function better. Aside from being free of heavy metals, it should always contain at least 60 % of EPA and DHA. You would also have to consider or be cautious with vitamins like Vitamin A and E which can be very harmful in large doses.

How would you know that you are buying the safe fish oil supplement?  Only buy from companies that use fresh and high qualify fish and inform the public where they get their fish.  You can check their websites or labels to be informed properly.

Fish oil supplements can be either liquid or tablet.  Liquid fish oil costs more than oil capsules. But when compared with capsules based on the cost-per-gram it is actually less expensive. Capsules are tamper-proof and keep the oil from getting bad.  Most people find fish oil to be expensive or over priced.  Some experts would say that there are two ways to compare prices.  You can compare the total amount of DHA in the supplement and the cost for each gram of DHA.

You would feel that you have low quality fish oil if you suffer from any ache or pain.  So, we would have to be cautious when buying low-cost fish oil.  They may not be the same as the high-quality fish oil.  You would have to be cautious when buying cheap fish oil.

So, when buying fish oil, or any kind of product, read the label or the product information first.  Getting informed will relieve you of any kind of health risk in the future.  Reading the label or getting to know the product would not be more than a couple of minutes, anyway.  So, spare the time.

Customer Knowledge: Buying Fish Oil Supplements (part 1 of 2)

Fish oil has many benefits to our overall health, whether it is for the heart or brain.  Research showed that fish oil can reduce the risk of heart attacks, cancers, mental and psychological disorders and other sicknesses.  The market is full of fish oil products, but how do we make sure that what we get are actually the ones that can benefit our health.

Not all fish contains Omega-3 oil or the essential fatty acids.  Fishes that have the highest number of fatty acids are salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies.

There are things that you would have to consider when buying fish oil.  Actually, health professionals would say that eating too much fish that contains fish oil and Omega-3 can cause mercury contamination.  This can happen if you do not exactly know where the fish are caught.  If the fish is caught in polluted waters, we can ingest mercury and other heavy metals.

To avoid toxins entering out body, we have to make sure that the fish oil that we are taking is molecularly distilled and pharmaceutical grade supplements.  These kinds of fish oil are removed of all toxins.  You would have to check at the label to make sure that they come from clean waters and properly refined.

When checking the label of a particular fish oil supplement, you check their websites and look for the “Certificate of Analysis.” This COA is an analysis performed by an independent laboratory to identify the freshness of the product.  Aside from checking the source of the fish and the freshness of the fish oil, you would also need to know what kind of fish the oil is from.

Gluten Free Cooking (part 2 of 2)

There are many resources available for those who need to eat gluten free foods. There are even more and more 'convenience' or prepackaged foods that are designated for gluten free cooking. This means that those who once had no option but creating meals from scratch do now have the occasional shortcut available to them. We are even finding cookie and cake mixes that are now gluten free in order to enjoy some of the finer things in life for those who would have been completely deprived only a few short years ago.

Changes are being made and resources are being shared through the Internet that help not only adults that require special gluten free cooking and diets but also support for the parents of children who must have gluten free diets. Cooking for children in the best of circumstances is often difficult. It is even more difficult when there are excessive dietary restrictions that often eliminate the possibility of our children enjoying childhood favorites. That is why it is so important to seek out the many resources and recipes that are available for gluten free cooking.

If you require a gluten free diet and have no idea where to start or what you should be cooking you should check out the many websites and blogs online that address the issues and needs that are faced by those requiring gluten restrictions. You will probably be amazed at the wealth of information that is available. Also, if you have a Trader Joes or Whole Foods store in your area, most of them either offer or will order gluten free products for your cooking needs.

Gluten free cooking does not have to be the chore many of us think it must be and all gluten free food doesn't taste like cardboard. Take the time to get to know the wonderful gluten free recipes that abound and incorporate them one at a time into your cooking repertoire. You will be amazed at how wonderful you feel as well as how great the food tastes.

Gluten Free Cooking (part 1 of 2)

When it comes to cooking, there are many dietary restrictions that will be encountered along the way. One restriction that is gaining some degree of notoriety in recent years is the need for a gluten free diet. Gluten is a substance that is commonly found in flour products that a decent sized portion of the population has a negative reaction to in some form or another. For these people, gluten free isn't a choice it is absolutely necessary.

Gluten free cooking does impose many restrictions and often makes it quite difficult to enjoy something the vast majority of us take for granted-dining out. The good news from those who require gluten free cooking is that more and more restaurants are beginning to acknowledge this condition and offer some selections that are gluten free. It takes time, just as it did with low carb craze for the demand for these products to make it worth the industries while to make adjustments in their way of preparing foods.

While on the one hand it is frustrating to not have the option of dining out, there is some challenge to finding new and tasty foods and combinations for cooking each and every night without falling into a rut of the same old foods that you know you can eat without worry. Consider cooking gluten free a challenge rather than a chore and you may find that the process is much more enjoyable. You might even find that you appreciate the meals you've worked hard to prepare even better because of the great sense of accomplishment.
